Why Set Details View Globally?
Details view is the most practical folder view for most Windows users โ it shows file names, sizes, dates, and types in a clean list format. The problem is Windows constantly reverts individual folders back to its own defaults. WinSetView sets Details view everywhere permanently in one action.
Step 1 โ Open WinSetView
Run WinSetView.hta from your extracted folder. The main interface loads showing a table of all Windows folder types with view dropdowns next to each.
Step 2 โ Set Global View to Details
At the very top of the interface you will see a "Global" row โ this controls the default view for all folder types at once. Click the view dropdown in the Global row and select Details.
Step 3 โ Leave All Folder Types on Inherit
Below the Global row, each specific folder type (Documents, Pictures, Music, etc.) has its own row. If "Inherit" is checked next to a folder type, it will use the Global setting โ which is now Details. Leave all of them on Inherit for a fully uniform Details view everywhere.
Step 4 โ Click Submit
Press the Submit button at the bottom of the interface. WinSetView will back up your current settings, write the Details view preference to the FolderTypes registry key for all folder types, and restart Windows Explorer automatically.
Step 5 โ Verify the Result
Open any folder in File Explorer โ it should now show in Details view. Open a different folder type like Pictures or Downloads โ both should also show Details view. The setting is now permanent and survives Windows updates and restarts.
